Ethical Principles for Niemikoti Foundation’s Experts by Experience
Niemikoti Foundation has organized Expert by Experience trainings once a year since 2016. The ethical principles have been formulated together during the trainings, based on the knowledge and values of both participants and trainers.
- We remain grounded in our own experience and experiential knowledge.
- We trust that our personal story and experience are impactful in themselves.
- We recognize and remember our responsibilities and our role.
- We strive to create hope in every assignment.
- We commit to each assignment and follow the agreement made with the client.
- We acknowledge the limits of our own skills and stamina and act accordingly.
- We commit to taking care of our own well-being.
- We reflect in advance on what to share about ourselves in each assignment and set boundaries on what we do not wish to share. We reflect on our own work.
- We assess the suitability of each assignment for ourselves and consider the target audience. If necessary, we decline the assignment.
- We recognize our motives for working as experts by experience.
- We are aware of the values that guide our work.
- We do not allow our ideologies, beliefs, or personal agendas to steer our work as experts by experience.
- We maintain the knowledge gained in training and continue to develop ourselves as experts by experience. We accept our own incompleteness.
- We speak with respect towards ourselves and others.
- We respect confidentiality and the anonymity of other people.
- We work in constructive cooperation with different professional groups.
- We recognize and acknowledge the importance of both professional knowledge and experiential knowledge, as well as the roles of different actors.
