During this week, the focus is on noticing the positive, giving encouraging feedback, and practicing gratitude. Sirpa is training to become a work supervisor, and the theme has been present in her studies as well. We met with Sirpa at Malmitalo to talk about the topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI realized how easy it is to give feedback when something goes wrong\u2014so why is it so difficult to say something positive?\u201d Sirpa reflects.<br>She recalls how the idea started gaining momentum.<br>\u201cIt\u2019s not just a one-off event; it\u2019s part of building a culture where people can truly thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Week of Wellbeing aligns naturally with the&nbsp;<strong>recovery-oriented approach<\/strong>&nbsp;that guides Niemikotis\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6\u2019s work. Recovery orientation emphasizes a person\u2019s strengths, sense of meaning, and potential for growth. Sometimes everyone needs a little help in recognizing their own strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Behind the theme lies a solid understanding of how individuals and communities function. Research in positive psychology shows that wellbeing grows when we pay attention to strengths, gratitude, and positive emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWellbeing is exactly what we want to strengthen,\u201d Sirpa says.<br>When we direct our attention to what is good, it begins to grow. Noticing the good is not always easy.<br>\u201cI think of it as a brain skill\u2014something you need to practice,\u201d Sirpa reminds us.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>When we praise and encourage others, we strengthen their sense of capability. When we participate together, we build a sense of belonging. And when it happens voluntarily, it also supports autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trust and reciprocity nurture positivity. When a community shares positive feedback, it increases willingness to cooperate and builds a sense of safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood feelings are contagious,\u201d Niina smiles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building a Structure for Wellbeing\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the week, each unit will explore themes of appreciation and gratitude in different ways. Every day has its own small task. These tasks were developed by\u00a0<strong>Elina Salo<\/strong>\u00a0from the editorial team of\u00a0<em>Hyv\u00e4 mieli<\/em>\u00a0magazine and the\u00a0<em>me\/us-team<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also encourage everyone to create a&nbsp;<strong>compliment wall<\/strong>, where people can leave messages for themselves or others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to lower the threshold: feeling good doesn\u2019t require big words.
